How to Add Employment History from One Company with Multiple Role Changes
Have you worked at one company in multiple different roles for a certain time period and wondered 'how do I input this into Zinc for a reference request?'. This is the article for you!
At Zinc, we suggest creating just one reference request for the entire time you worked at that company if this was one extensive period. This makes things easier for you and prevents your former employer from receiving multiple reference requests for the same workplace.
For example, if your new employer has requested you to provide 5 years of references into Zinc, and you have worked at 1 company for the last 3 years, you would input a reference request for **the entire 3 year period you worked at this organisation** with your **latest position at the organisation in the Job Title section**.
If you have not worked anywhere during the remaining two years, or if you have worked at a different company during that time, you will need to provide a **gap verification** (explaining periods when you were not working) or a **new reference** from your other employers to complete the 5 year requirement for this example.
Please note, if you worked at this company in two non-consecutive time periods, you will need to add it as two different references as duplicate referees are not allowed.

On the request, your most recent job title and your full history of employment at the organisation is sent to your referee to verify.
By doing this, you prevent duplicated reference requests and reduce mismatches since you've worked for this one company for a certain period of time.
**⚠️ Disclaimer: If your reference check is connected to the CV check, this guidance doesn't apply and you will need to add multiple different reference requests to each job role you had within one organisation if you have provided each individual job role on your CV as duplicate referees cannot be provided.**
If your employer has requested multiple types of references, like a regulatory reference and a professional reference, make sure you put the request under the correct type.
**Regulatory references** are used in regulated sectors where the referee verifies employment and also answers mandatory questions about the candidate in relation to safeguarding, fitness within your controlled function from the FCA (financial sector), or other required questions for that type of role.
If this was **not** a regulated role, **please add it as a professional reference or employment verification where requested**.
