Do I Need To Manually Verify a Candidate’s Address for a DBS Application?
No. For England & Wales DBS applications run through Zinc, you do not need to verify a candidate’s address manually. A failed address check won’t stop their DBS application being submitted.
## How We Check an Address
We attempt to verify the candidate’s current address digitally for every England & Wales DBS application, using a certified digital verification service. This search checks sources such as credit agencies and national postal and electoral lists.
If the digital check can’t find a match, we may ask the candidate for a proof of address. They’ll see a list of accepted documents and take a live photo of the document. You can find the full list in [What Documents Do I Need for a DBS Identity Check?](https://help.zincwork.com/en/article/2c3242ed-what-documents-do-i-need-for-a-dbs-identity-check)
If the candidate doesn’t provide a document, or it doesn’t pass, we still submit the DBS application. You don’t need to do anything.
## Why You Don’t Need To Check It Yourself
The DBS’s [digital identity verification guidance](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/dbs-identity-checking-guidelines/dbs-digital-identity-verification-guidance) says that if a digital check can’t verify a current address, this should be noted, but no further manual address verification is required.
## What You Still Need To Check
You may need to manually verify a proof of address document as part of the identity check.
If the digital identity check can’t be completed, you may need to verify the candidate’s identity manually. See [How to Complete a Manual ID Verification for Standard and Enhanced DBS Checks](https://help.zincwork.com/article/1395ab19-how-to-complete-a-manual-id-verification-for-standard-and-enhanced-dbs-checks).
