Social Media Check: Overview, Process, and Results Interpretation

## What is it? A social media check is a review process conducted to assess a candidate's online presence and activity on social media platforms. Employers use this check as part of their hiring process to identify any potential risks or concerns that could impact the candidate's suitability for a position. This check focuses on identifying posts, comments, or interactions that may raise concerns related to: - Offensive language or behaviour. - Discriminatory content. - Violent or threatening remarks. - Illegal activities. - Other content that may reflect poorly on the individual’s professional conduct. The purpose of the social media check is not to invade the candidate's privacy but to ensure that their public online activity aligns with the values and expectations of the employer. ## How is the search conducted? Zinc collects key personal information (full name, date of birth/age, country, and email) and provides them to Ferretly to conduct the search. The search is a combination of a human analyst and an AI agent, ensuring a comprehensive and accurate result. Only public posts are searched and flagged. Up to two handles per platform are returned. Public Posts are searched against a pre-configured list of risk categories: - Disparaging - Drug Image - Drug/Alcohol Mention - Gory Image - Nudity Image - Prejudice - Profanity - Rude Gestures/Symbols - Self Harm - Suggestive - Threats - Weapons Image The 7 platforms searched are Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn, Reddit, Pinterest Analysed post types include: - Original Posts - Comments - Replies - Shares/Reposts - Likes and Saved posts are analysed (The type of posts analysed varies by platform) We do not search the following: - **Niche/interest forums** : Reddit, Discord groups, Quora, niche industry boards. - **News & blogs**: Public blog sites and comment sections. - **Dark web & deep web forums** (for high-risk industries, brand protection, or cybersecurity-related checks). - We also do not provide brand searches ## How long does the search take? The entire search process takes roughly **24-48 hours.** ## How is this search kept up to date?
