How to Conduct Basic DBS Checks Using Templates with Zinc

At Zinc, we make it simple to conduct Basic DBS criminal checks. To make it even easier, here's a step by step guide on how to set those checks up and how to keep track on those applications. ## Step one: Create a package 1. Navigate to the [Packages](app.zincwork.com/packages) page. 2. In the top right corner, select **Create new package**. ![how-to-conduct-basic-dbs-checks-using-templates-with-zinc-1](https://storage.googleapis.com/public-fini-assets/zincwork_hc_images/how-to-conduct-basic-dbs-checks-using-templates-with-zinc-1.jpg) 3. Click the option for **Templates**. 4. In the search bar, type **Basic**. 5. Look for a template that mentions Basic DBS checks. 6. Select **Use Template** to get started. ![how-to-conduct-basic-dbs-checks-using-templates-with-zinc-2](https://storage.googleapis.com/public-fini-assets/zincwork_hc_images/how-to-conduct-basic-dbs-checks-using-templates-with-zinc-2.gif) ## Step two: Finish package setup After you've selected the template, you will need to finish the package set up by adding the name of the package. ![how-to-conduct-basic-dbs-checks-using-templates-with-zinc-3](https://storage.googleapis.com/public-fini-assets/zincwork_hc_images/how-to-conduct-basic-dbs-checks-using-templates-with-zinc-3.png) Then, you can edit any of the checks you don't want to conduct or add in any more if needed while seeing the pricing of each check and the total on the right hand side of the screen (Pay As You Grow users only). ![how-to-conduct-basic-dbs-checks-using-templates-with-zinc-4](https://storage.googleapis.com/public-fini-assets/zincwork_hc_images/how-to-conduct-basic-dbs-checks-using-templates-with-zinc-4.jpg) As noted on the platform, for a UK DBS check, an Address Check and an ID or RTW check are **required to be done**. Optionally, you can add in rechecks after editing the checks. If you need annual rechecks to candidates within the package, this is the time to add this in, or you can select **Don't remind me** if you don't need this. ![how-to-conduct-basic-dbs-checks-using-templates-with-zinc-5](https://storage.googleapis.com/public-fini-assets/zincwork_hc_images/how-to-conduct-basic-dbs-checks-using-templates-with-zinc-5.jpg) Finally, you can customise the candidate note that will display at the top of the candidate's submission page so feel free to add in any instructions you need to help your candidates. ![how-to-conduct-basic-dbs-checks-using-templates-with-zinc-6](https://storage.googleapis.com/public-fini-assets/zincwork_hc_images/how-to-conduct-basic-dbs-checks-using-templates-with-zinc-6.jpg) If you have any team members you would like to subscribe to this package, where an individual user will be notified about updates to this check, you can add this in after customising the note. ![how-to-conduct-basic-dbs-checks-using-templates-with-zinc-7](https://storage.googleapis.com/public-fini-assets/zincwork_hc_images/how-to-conduct-basic-dbs-checks-using-templates-with-zinc-7.jpg) That's it! Now the package is all set up for you to use! ## Step three: Request checks Now that you've set up your package, you're ready to send checks your candidates! [You can find steps on how to request checks here.](https://help.zincwork.com/hc/hm54ky7yrc/article/b1feb366-how-to-make-a-new-request-within-zinc-and-resend-candidate-links) Once you've sent the requests, your candidates will begin completing their checks. ## Step four: Tracking those checks While the background checks are being processed, you can easily monitor the progress of each DBS check. ### How to track your checks - Look for the E0 Application reference number on the candidate's report in the criminal check section - You'll also need the candidate's date of birth ![how-to-conduct-basic-dbs-checks-using-templates-with-zinc-8](https://storage.googleapis.com/public-fini-assets/zincwork_hc_images/how-to-conduct-basic-dbs-checks-using-templates-with-zinc-8.png) ### What if I can't find the E0 Application reference number? If you can't see this number on the candidate's report, it usually means the DBS is double-checking the application details before it begins being processed. Check back in a few hours and if you still don't see anything, get in touch with our Support Team to see if there's anything you can do to help. ## Step five: Get those results! Once the check is completed, you will be notified automatically by Zinc and you can view the results on the candidate's report. If you need to review a **Consider** result, contact the candidate directly as they will have further information.
