How to Integrate Zinc Background Checks with Greenhouse Recruiting ATS
## How to integrate Zinc with Greenhouse

### Step 1: Connect Greenhouse and Zinc
There are two separate connections to set up between Zinc and Greenhouse:
- **API key** — lets you request checks from Greenhouse and receive the overall result back.
- **Harvest** — lets Zinc deliver each candidate's completed report as a PDF directly into their Greenhouse profile.
**Connect for requesting checks and results**
1. Sign in to Zinc or create an account if you haven't already.
2. Go to **Company settings > Integrations**, find **Greenhouse**, and click **Generate API Key**.
3. Click **Copy**. You'll enter the copied API key into Greenhouse Recruiting in the next step.
4. Reach out to Greenhouse Support and ask them to add the API key to your account. **Connect for PDF report delivery**
1. Still under **Company settings > Integrations**, find **Greenhouse** and click **Connect Harvest**.
2. In the confirmation window, click **Connect Harvest** again to confirm you want to authorise Greenhouse Harvest to access your Zinc account.
3. You'll be redirected to Greenhouse. Enter the email address for your Greenhouse account and click **Log in to Greenhouse**.
4. Review the permissions Zinc is requesting — access to **Candidates & Prospects** and **Applications** — then complete the Greenhouse login prompts to authorise the connection.
5. Once authorised, you'll see a confirmation that Greenhouse Harvest has been successfully connected. Click **Go to Zinc** to return to your integrations page.
6. Back in Zinc, the Greenhouse row will now show a **Harvest connected** badge, confirming PDF delivery is switched on.
### Step 2: Customise your checks
Work with your Zinc Account Manager to decide which background checks you'd like to run and tailor any reference questions. You can create multiple check packages, which will be accessible from Greenhouse.
### Step 3: Add Zinc to your interview plan
1. Add the Zinc background check by first navigating to a job dashboard in Greenhouse and click the **Job Setup** tab.
2. Select **Interview Plan** from the listed options.
3. Decide where in your hiring process you’d like to conduct background checks.
4. In Greenhouse, select **Add Stage** and choose **Automated Reference with Zinc**.
5. Configure the interview stage placement, then click **Edit** on the interview kit to select the correct test and assign graders to review the assessment.
### Step 4: Send the request
1. On the candidate's profile, click **Automated Reference with Zinc**.
2. Select **Send Test**.
Before sending, let your candidate know that Zinc will be conducting the background check and to watch for a message from us.
The graders will be notified and can view a link to their submission directly from the scorecard in Greenhouse Recruiting.
## What happens next
**Let Zinc work**
Zinc will contact your candidate via email and text, asking them to complete the background checks you have chosen. We will send automated reminders to ensure that you get your checks in good time.
**Track the progress**
You can view the status of each candidate’s checks in your ATS. We’ll notify you by email as soon as an individual check is completed.
**View insights**
View your candidate reports directly from your ATS to make better hiring decisions without leaving your ATS or HRIS.

## Good to Know
**Who grades a check package?**
The list of graders shown when sending a check package pulls from recruiters within Greenhouse — not from Zinc platform users.
**Can multiple Zinc accounts connect to one Greenhouse account?**
No — one Greenhouse account maps to one Zinc account. If you need separation between teams, use packages or groups within a single shared Zinc account, or set up two separate Greenhouse accounts.
**Can completed reports sync from Greenhouse into a separate HRIS?**
No — this is a limitation on Greenhouse's side rather than Zinc's.
**Can a candidate be moved to the offer stage in Greenhouse while skipping the Zinc check process (e.g. for internal candidates)?**
Yes — Zinc doesn't block a candidate from progressing to offer or hire in Greenhouse, even if their background check package isn't complete.
**Does an incomplete package block hiring?**
No — an incomplete package doesn't block progressing a candidate to hire.
**Does Greenhouse show whether a check package is complete, or whether a candidate has started their checks, without opening Zinc?**
No — no status visibility is shown in Greenhouse for either.
**Can I get notified when a candidate is close to their start date with checks still outstanding?**
Not currently.
**Can checks be launched manually while a candidate is in the offer stage?**
Not currently — the Zinc stage needs to sit before the Offer stage in your interview plan.
