How to Process Share Code Right to Work Documents

Prospective employees using the service must select: **prove your right to work to an employer** (https://www.gov.uk/prove-right-to-work). You can then generate a 9-character long share code that can be passed on to an employer which, when entered alongside your date of birth, enables access to the information. The share code will be valid for 90 days from the point it has been issued and can be used as many times as needed within that time. Employers will not be able to accept or use share codes which begin with the letter **R** or **S** as these are designed for other services. Where you provide a share code via Zinc, your employer must carry out the check by viewing your GOV.UK page in order to obtain a statutory excuse against a civil penalty. Evidence of the GOV.UK page must be saved on file. The online service allows checks to be carried out by video call. Physical documents do not need to be seen as the right to work information is provided in real time directly from Home Office systems.
