## What is covered in the credit check?
The Adverse Financial verification process source provides credit data on all Egyptian citizens who have taken up a credit facility with any regulated financial institution in Egypt, as well as on foreigners legally residing in Egypt. The source maintains a database of credit information for both consumers as well as small- and medium-sized enterprises, and its information is derived from banks as well as credit registries, negative lists, and Egyptian courts. The credit reports are ordered through two licensed banks in Egypt: the National Bank of Egypt and Bank Misr.
The data includes the following details:
- official credit bureau consumer credit report with:
- Record of the individual’s debt repayments (including a loan payment history and the status of all outstanding debts as well as a credit score to establish the individual’s level of repayment risk)
- Legal actions covering bankruptcy and preventive reconciliation data
The information in the database is updated 3 times per week based on credit data reported from the credit bureau's members; the credit file contains data covering up to 7 years and a minimum of 5 years (negative information (delinquencies) remains on the report for a set period of five years following repayment).
## Restrictions, Exclusions, Limitations:
- The service is currently available for Egyptian citizens and foreigners legally residing in Egypt.
- Following the current developments of the Central Bank of Egypt Law No. 194 of 2020, any credit history checks in Egypt should be processed only upon a fully filled-in Letter of Authorisation (Authorisation Form), handwritten and wet-signed by the candidate.
- The check leaves a footprint on the individuals’ credit profile and influences their creditworthiness only if numerous (depending on timeline frequency, typically 6 or more) requests are made for the same individual’s report within 12 months.
- The credit bureau forbids sharing credit information with third parties outside of the consent provided for the purposes of a credit check.
## What is the period covered by the check?
- The information in the database is updated 3 times per week based on credit data reported from the credit bureau's members; the credit file contains data covering up to 7 years and a minimum of 5 years (negative information (delinquencies) remains on the report for a set period of five years following repayment).
- The ID document is mandatorily required by the authorities for processing.
