## Step-by-step guide
1. Select if you are on the DBS Update Service or not.
After you click on your criminal check, you will be asked if you are subscribed to the DBS Update Service.
- If you select **yes**, you can learn more by reading [Using Your Update Service Subscription](https://help.zincwork.com/hc/hm54ky7yrc/article/8bfc140e-using-your-update-service-subscription-with-zinc).
- If you select **no**, you will be asked to complete a new DBS application.

2. Provide your details.
When you start your new DBS application, you will be asked to provide your details.
This will include:
- **Your Title**
- **Gender**
- **Legal Current Full Name**
- **Date of Birth**
- **Email Address**
- **National Insurance Number (if available)**
Your name and date of birth is pre-filled from your identity check you completed before this check, but just double check that these are all correct before you move on.
If you don't have a National Insurance Number, you can indicate this by ticking **'I don't have a national insurance number'** on the form so you can continue the submission.
Once you have completed this section, click **Save and continue**.

3. Provide your nationality and provide if any unspent convictions.
After confirming your details, you will asked to let us know if your nationality has changed since birth.
If you have gained a new nationality, like becoming a UK citizen, you would select this as **Yes** and provide what your current nationality is.
For dual citizens of the UK that gained their British nationality later in life, we recommend selecting this as **yes**, even though your nationality has not changed, to go through the UK citizens DBS route.
You will be asked to provide:
- **City or Town of birth**
- **County or region of birth**
- **Country of birth**
After, you will be asked if your nationality at birth was different. This refers to if you had a different nationality to the country where you were born such as a UK citizen born in America.
Finally, we ask you to confirm if you have any unspent criminal convictions.
When you have completed this section, click **Save and continue**.

4. Select or add your job title.
Now, you will be asked to select your job title from a list set up by your employer.
Use the dropdown to find your relevant new job title and then click **Save and continue**.

If you are unsure on what to pick or what you should put in for your job title, contact your employer directly so they can advise you correctly.
If you don’t see your new job title and you know what it is and it’s allowed by your employer, you can add in your own job title by clicking **Not Listed**.
You will then be asked the below information:
- **Your new job title**
- **Who you are working with**
- **If you are having any regulated contact with vulnerable people over the age of 18**
- **If you are having any regulated contact with vulnerable people under the age of 18**
- **If you are a volunteer within this new role**
- **If the vulnerable people will be physically present at your own home address**
If you don't see your new job title and there's not a Not Listed option, please contact your employer directly as they'll be able
to let you know what you should select for your job title.
**Note:** If you're having trouble with the employment information dropdown — for example, your job title isn't listed and there's no
way to add it — this is controlled by your employer. Contact them directly and they can advise on the correct selection or update the
options available to you.
After selecting the details of your job role, click **Save and continue**.

5. Provide consent.
Finally, you will be asked to provide your consent for the check to proceed.
Once you have read through and consented in the tickboxes indicated, click **Consent and submit criminal check**.
