DBS/Criminal Check Statuses: “Action Required”, “Blocked”, and “Confirm original details of your DBS certificate”

## What “Action Required” / “Attention Needed” means on a criminal check The **“Action Required”** (also shown as **“Attention Needed”**) status means that urgent action is required from the **employer’s side** for the background check process to continue. This typically happens if something like **document verification for a candidate's identity or right to work** needs reviewing or approval before the DBS (criminal) check can proceed. It **does not** mean the check is complete or failed—it''s an alert that a step needs attention before moving forward. ## What “Blocked” means on a DBS (criminal) check The **“Blocked”** status means the DBS check **can’t proceed yet** because it’s waiting for other related checks or actions to be completed. This often happens when **identity, address, or right to work checks** still need reviewing or approval first. Once those steps are finished, the DBS check will move forward automatically. - **“Blocked” is a normal status.** - **No further action is required from your side at this stage unless you are notified otherwise.** ### “Blocked by ID” and ID check showing “Consider” If the DBS check says **“Blocked by ID”**, it means the DBS check **cannot proceed until the identity (ID) check is completed**. If the **ID check** shows **“Consider”**, it usually means there was an **issue with the ID check submission** and it may need to be **reset** so the candidate can **resubmit** it correctly. ## “Confirm original details of your DBS certificate” / “Original DBS certificate” You will need to make a time with your employer directly to have your **original DBS certificate** reviewed. The **original paper DBS certificate needs to be reviewed in person**, not just over a video link or a copy of the certificate. Please contact your employer directly once you see this status to set up a time for this to be reviewed.
