Greece Criminal Record Check Process and Requirements
## Who is the source of criminal check data in Greece?
Ministry of Justice Division of Criminal Records.
## What is the process in Greece?
1. Request the check from the ATS or your Zinc account.
2. Follow the automated instructions to provide personal details, a copy of your ID and a Specific Authorisation Form in a dynamic web form.
3. Zinc submits the request to the authorities.
4. Zinc receives the results (digitally) and provides a signed digital report.
5. You receive a notification on Zinc to say the process is complete.
## What details are required from the candidate to submit the check?
- **First Name**
- **Last Name**
- **Birth Date**
- **Consent**
- **Type of Specific Authorisation Form**
- Choose **Digital Authorisation** or **Original Specific Authorisation sent to in-country partner**
- **Specific Authorisation Form**
- Please provide a copy of the Authorisation Form in the following format (only one is needed)
- *Digital Authorisation Form*: In-country and out-of-country candidates **with** access to their Greek Personal Internet Banking Credentials or their Greek TAXISnet codes can provide the digital Authorisation Form. The Authorisation should indicate details of our in-country Partner as mentioned in the attached ordering instructions, the process takes less than 2 minutes.
- Original Legalised Authorisation Form to be sent by postal mail to in-country partner, this is applicable in the following cases: In-country and out-of-country candidates **with no** access to their Greek Personal Internet Banking Credentials or their Greek TAXISnet codes. Out-of-country candidates who **cannot** log in to their Greek Personal Internet Banking Credentials or their Greek TAXISnet codes. If sending Original Specific Authorisation Form by post, then the form must be legalised. For **candidates in Greece**, the legalisation can be done in a Police Station or a Citizen Service Center. If the **candidate is outside of Greece**, then the form must be legalised by the Greek Consulate of the country of residence. Please note that legalisation by a **lawyer is not accepted**.

## What is covered in the criminal check?
The Copy of the Criminal Record ('αντιγραφο ποινικου μητρωου, για γενικη χρηση'), District Attorney's Office of the place of birth (for Greek citizens) and the Ministry of Justice (for Greek individuals born abroad and foreigners). has nationwide coverage, including citizens and foreigners over 18 years of age.
The issuance of the certificate is subject to the candidate’s explicit consent and is intended to serve one particular purpose indicated during the application process.
The District Attorney's Office and the Ministry of Justice reserve the right to issue or reject the issuance of the certificate after careful assessment and scrutiny of the nature of the request.
The certificate contains information for all the following criminal convictions of offenses, except those deleted by rehabilitation laws or considered spent:
- Final convicting court decisions for felonies and misdemeanours
- Final convicting bills of indictment for felonies and misdemeanours
- Secondary penalties such as incarceration in a mental institution
- Convicting court decisions of foreign courts
- Length petty offenses
- Imprisonment up to 6 months
- Sentences of imprisonment superior to 6 months after 8 years have passed
- Sentences of imprisonment from 5 to 20 years after 20 years have passed
- Suspended convictions
- Being a member of the European Union, ECRIS is applicable
The legal prescription of a sentence varies, depending on the type of offense committed and the sentence pronounced.
The certificate doesn’t have a specific validity and depends on the institutions who request this type of certificate that the document is issued no more than 3 months prior to its deposit and is issued in the Greek language.

## Period covered by the check
The records are kept based on the legal prescription and rehabilitation periods applicable for each type of conviction provided by the local regulations in Greece. All the records are maintained by The District Attorney's Office and the Ministry of Justice. The authority receives the request conducts a detailed review and issues the certificate based on the above.
