Using Your Update Service Subscription with Zinc

## The steps you can take to use your Update Service subscription with Zinc To carry out an Update Service check we need the following information from you: 1. A copy of the original DBS certificate. 2. The DBS certificate number. 3. The current surname of the DBS certificate holder, as shown on your DBS certificate. 4. The date of birth of the DBS certificate holder, as shown on your DBS certificate. 5. Consent to check the Update Service. ## How do I share my Update Service details When you click on the criminal check box on your check dashboard, the first question you'll be asked is: **Are you subscribed to the DBS Update Service?** This is where you opt into the Update Service process in Zinc and where you declare your Update Service subscription. ![zincwork_hc_images/using-your-update-service-subscription-1.jpg](https://storage.googleapis.com/public-fini-assets/zincwork_hc_images/using-your-update-service-subscription-1.jpg) Next, you will provide your **DBS Certificate Number** that you can find on your Enhanced DBS certificate and upload a copy of your DBS certificate. ## Why do you need a copy of the original DBS certificate We need the original certificate to allow your employer verify the workforce type and check for any barred lists. If you don't have your DBS certificate, you cannot complete the Update Service flow and you will need to complete a new DBS application. The **workforce type** can be found in the **Position applied for** section of your DBS certificate. The **barred lists** that were checked can be found in the **Barred lists** section on your DBS certificate. Please check and try again. This means either: - You have not subscribed or no longer subscribe to the Update Service. - The DBS certificate has been removed from the Update Service. - You have not entered the correct information. ![zincwork_hc_images/using-your-update-service-subscription-5.png](https://storage.googleapis.com/public-fini-assets/zincwork_hc_images/using-your-update-service-subscription-5.png) ### The details don’t match The information you submitted about your current Enhanced DBS Certificate does not match the criteria for your new role. We will display the details from the current DBS certificate with the requirements for the new role and highlight any mismatched criteria. The mismatch criteria will either be: - The workforce type. - The barred list(s). - Both the workforce type and barred list(s). The details have to match exactly to be used for the Update Service so we can't have any discrepancies between what was on your certificate and what the criteria is for your role. ## What happens if I see employment information In this step, if your Update Service has been successfully processed, you will need to select your new job title from the list from your employer. If they are happy with the information provided and it matches what's provided in the Update Service database, then your criminal check is completed. If there's any issues with the certificate, information provided, or they don't want to use the Update Service, you will be notified automatically by Zinc to return to the platform to provide your details for a new DBS certificate.
