How to Add References Found From Your CV in Zinc
If your employer has enabled CV checks for your references, you will be prompted to add references based off of your CV entries.
If you have the option to complete instant employment verification, you will see the CV details section **after** completing this section.
This section will show you the references that were found from your CV, uploaded by your recruiter.
## Can I update my CV?
The CV used for your background check can’t be directly updated, as it was uploaded by your recruiter when they created your background check request.
However, you can edit the following details when providing your reference information:
- Employment dates
- Job title
- Company name
Need to use a different CV? Please contact your employer or recruiter directly. They’ll need to create a new background check request with your updated CV.

If you wish to remove a reference that was found from your CV, you will be asked to explain why you are doing this and be notified that this removal will be displayed on your report for your new employer to review.

When you see a link to **Add details** , it will take you to the reference section to provide details for Zinc to contact your referee for that particular reference on your behalf with some personal details pre-filled for you from what was found on your CV.

If you need to modify any details here, please provide an explanation on any start dates or job title changes you make. This is required for the submission to proceed.

Once you submit a reference request, you should then find it to be linked between what was found on your CV and what you inputted on your reference request.

If you want to add a new reference that wasn't found on your CV, click **Next**, then **Add employment reference**.
For any gaps in your employment history, you will be asked to define your **non-employment period**. For example, if you are a new graduate, you can add in your time in education and will be prompted to provide optional documentation and an **academic reference**. If you’ve been not working for another reason, you can also add in optional documentation for this time period to define any gaps in your CV.
After completing your references, move to any other pending checks that you need to complete and if you need more advice on what to do once your checks are submitted you can find out more [here](https://help.zincwork.com/hc/hm54ky7yrc/article/fb17fc75-what-to-do-after-submitting-your-background-check-information).
## Reusing references and CV references
If you've used Zinc before and are now sent a new request to complete, you will be asked if you want to **reuse your references.**
You can decide if you want to reuse references or not.
Any references you do reuse, Zinc will try to identify some potential matches between your CV and potential matches from the references you would like to reuse.
To link them together, just click **Link reference** to link these matches together so you don't need to request a new reference. You will only need to request a new reference if it’s a regulatory reference as these reference types won’t count towards the reference requirement.
If you don't want to reuse it or if it's the wrong reference, just click **Dismiss** to provide a new reference request instead.
You can follow the process above to add any details in.
