Can a Candidate Start Employment Before Receiving All Professional References?

If you have not yet received all professional references for a candidate, you should decide whether the candidate can start employment based on your own HR and Compliance team’s requirements. We cannot advise on the appropriateness of starting employment before all professional references are returned. If you are satisfied with the information you have already gathered, such as confirmed dates of employment through HMRC, you may mark the candidate’s checks as complete on their report. If you wish to document your reasons for satisfaction before marking the report complete, you can add a note or mark individual references as reviewed directly on each reference card. For guidance on how to do this, see the process described in [Adding Notes and Reviewing References on a Candidate Report](https://help.zincwork.com/hc/hm54ky7yrc/article/1af6858a-reference-level-notes). This helps keep a clear record of your decision-making related to pending references while ensuring compliance with your internal policies.
