My Reference Isn't Completed Yet

If your referee's reference hasn't been completed yet, there's a few things you can do to get that reference completed. ## Why a completed reference might not appear If your CV has been uploaded as part of your request, Zinc can extract roles, companies, and dates from your CV. Zinc also uses your employer’s package (and the reference check they’ve set up) to determine the reference criteria—such as the number of references required and the time period they cover (for example, a **5-year** requirement). When you go through your reference check, you’re only prompted to add references for CV entries that match your employer’s reference criteria. If a specific employer/role is **outside** that requirement window, it: - may **not** be shown in the **Linked references** area, and - may instead appear under **Additional references** (which is where extra references can appear, including ones outside your employer’s requirement or ones not picked up from your CV that you have added in). ## Check the email is correct Seems simple enough but the first thing you can do is check that the email you provided for your referee is correct. You will need to [access your checks](https://help.zincwork.com/hc/hm54ky7yrc/article/cc4dc62b-how-to-access-your-completed-background-checks-on-zinc) again and click **References**. ![my-reference-isn-t-completed-yet-1](https://storage.googleapis.com/public-fini-assets/zincwork_hc_images/my-reference-isn-t-completed-yet-1.png) Click the type of reference that it was submitted under and take a look to see if the referee email provided is correct. You should also check it's still a valid email as it may be an old email. ![my-reference-isn-t-completed-yet-2](https://storage.googleapis.com/public-fini-assets/zincwork_hc_images/my-reference-isn-t-completed-yet-2.png) If it's not right, you will need to [replace those details](https://help.zincwork.com/hc/hm54ky7yrc/article/7388c1c4-how-to-replace-or-amend-referee-details-after-reference-submission). If it's correct, move onto the next step! ## Confirm your referee has looked through their inbox The next step after confirming the email is correct, is by having the referee check their inbox for any emails from us. Contact them directly to see if there's any issues and if they've received a message as they may be working on the request still. ![my-reference-isn-t-completed-yet-3](https://storage.googleapis.com/public-fini-assets/zincwork_hc_images/my-reference-isn-t-completed-yet-3.png) These typically have a subject line including **Reference Request** and come from our email [checks@zincwork.com](mailto:checks@zincwork.com) so have them search for these in their inbox, including their spam or junk folders! Hopefully your referee finds it here and replies but if not, move to the next step. ## Contact our Support Team Still nothing? Connect with our Support Team via live chat or email and we can send another request manually for you. Sometimes there are issues with email deliverability depending on the organisation we are talking to so this manual email does the trick! After sending this for you, have your referee look for an email from us. This one will come from [contact@zincwork.com](mailto:contact@zincwork.com) with **Reference Request** in the subject line. Still issues? Try our last step! ## Provide an alternative email Unfortunately sometimes after trying all these steps, this may not be the best email address to give you a reference. Best thing to do is provide an alternative email address for this referee instead for Zinc to try and contact. You will need to [replace those details](https://help.zincwork.com/hc/hm54ky7yrc/article/7388c1c4-how-to-replace-or-amend-referee-details-after-reference-submission) to do this so follow those steps to add this new email in. After doing this, we will reach out to them again and get the reference completed for you. Any further issues, try the process again to make sure your reference gets completed.
