What Cookies Does Zinc Use, and How Do I Choose?
Zinc only uses **optional cookies** if you say yes. Your choice has no effect on your checks.
### Types of cookies
- **Strictly necessary**: always on. These keep you signed in, keep the service secure, and save your progress.
- **Functional**: remember things like messages you've dismissed, and support our optional chat and product announcements.
- **Analytics**: show us which steps people get stuck on, so we can fix them.
- **Advertising**: measure and target advertising, including sharing data with advertising partners. They aren't needed to run your checks.
To see every cookie, what it does, and how long it lasts, open **Cookie preferences** and select **What's in this group**.
## When you'll see the cookie banner
If you haven't made a choice yet, you'll see the banner:
- if you're a candidate, the first time you open a check form, including before you sign in.
- if you're a recruiter or customer, the first time you use the recruiter areas of the platform, such as your candidates, company, account and billing pages.
## How to choose your cookie settings
Select one of these options:
- **Accept optional cookies**
- **Reject optional cookies**
- **Choose what to allow** to pick category by category
Then select **Save my choices**.
## How to change your choices later
Select **Cookie preferences** at the bottom of the page, update the switches, and select **Save my choices**.
Your choice is stored in your browser, so if you clear your browser data or switch devices, you'll be asked again.
