How to View DBS Results as a Recruiter

This article is for recruiters using Zinc. On Zinc, you'll see if the applicant has something on the record or not. It will say **Match found** with a **pink** tag on the report if there's something on the report. If there is no match tag, this means the check is **clear**. If there is something on the record, you'll need to ask the applicant to share a copy of their certificate with you to check the offences. ## DBS Report Fields: Understanding Different Pathways For Enhanced DBS checks, candidate reports can follow one of two pathways: **Update Service** or **New DBS Check**. The information visible to recruiters differs depending on the pathway. ### Update Service Pathway - **Before recruiter actions the Update Service status check:** - The original DBS certificate displayed on the report will show: - Certificate number - Certificate issue date - DBS check level (the Update Service only supports Enhanced level checks) - **After the Update Service status check is completed:** - The report indicates that the certificate is registered with the Update Service. - It shows the date the Update Service status check was completed. - The outcome of the status check is displayed. - The report will NOT show the certificate number, the certificate issue date, or the DBS check level anymore. These fields correspond to the process of monitoring a previously issued Enhanced DBS certificate using the Update Service. ### New DBS Check Pathway In contrast, when a new DBS check is performed (not via the Update Service), the report shows: - Certificate number - When the check was completed - DBS check level - Result of the check - What workforce/barred lists (if any) were searched Understanding these differences helps you interpret candidate reports correctly and know what to expect depending on which DBS check pathway was used.
