Financial Services Register Check: FCA Authorization and Verification Process
## What is the Financial Services Register check
Zinc's FCA Financial Services Register check shows if an individual is, or has been, officially authorised to carry out regulated financial services.
Integrating directly with the FCA's Financial Services (FS) Register, the check instantly confirms the individual's current status, approved roles, the firms they worked under, and whether any disciplinary or regulatory action has been taken.
The FS Register also includes historic (pre-SMCR) records, so past Approved Persons Regime records may be returned even if the person is no longer in a regulated role.
## What does the process look like for candidates
When the Financial Services Register check is enabled, you are first asked to provide your 8 character Individual Reference Number (IRN).

1. If you know your IRN, provide it in the labeled text box.

2. If you don't know your IRN, you can find it by following our guidance [here](https://help.zincwork.com/hc/hm54ky7yrc/article/e41be987-what-to-do-if-you-dont-know-your-irn-number).
3. Once you provide these details and click **Submit**, the check is then processed.
If the IRN number can't be found or there is an issue with the number, we will inform you right away to try again.

If you haven't worked in an FCA regulated role before, you can select the **No** option and the check will proceed from that point after you click **Submit**.

This search is processed using the IRN number and your full name to check the Financial Services Register.
## What does the report look like
Once the check is completed, there are four different overall results from this check:
- **Completed**

- Valid IRN with no issues or not on register and no name found

- **Consider**

- Not on register, but up for your review to check any possible matches

- **Match Found**

- Found potential matches requiring review
- Also used with possible controlled function level restriction(s) and/or disciplinary history(ies) found
- Any restrictions or disciplinary history records found will be marked with further information in the results

- **Mismatch Found**

- Name does not match IRN number provided
As the employer, you will receive a full report with detailed findings but candidates will not see final results to prevent unauthorised access to others’ records.
## How do I know Zinc has the right person
We compare the name provided by the candidate and the name associated with that IRN number. There may be multiple individuals with same name in FCA register so we check previous names against both current and history records. If no IRN was provided, the system performs a fuzzy search for exact name matches.
You can also compare job history. You can check any roles associated with the IRN match to job history information you have on the candidate. This isn't something Zinc does but you can use our [CV check](https://help.zincwork.com/hc/hm54ky7yrc/article/05457820-cv-check-what-it-is-how-it-works-and-why-to-use-it) and [reference check](https://help.zincwork.com/hc/hm54ky7yrc/article/9e78e89d-what-reference-types-are-offered-at-zinc) to support you doing this process on Zinc.
