Guidance for Entering Short Employment Periods with Same Start and End Month in Zinc
If you had a very short employment period, such as about one week, and the portal only accepts month/year entries for start and end dates, you may encounter a situation where the portal does not allow you to set the same month and year for both start and end, causing the "Next" button to remain disabled.
To proceed, follow these steps:
- Leave the "Are you currently working in this role?" checkbox unchecked.
- Enter your actual start month and year in the start date field.
- For the end date, if the portal prevents using the same month and year as the start date, enter the following month as the end month.
This workaround enables you to continue the form submission. It will not cause your employment check to fail. Instead, the verification may be flagged as "Consider" rather than an automatic pass. The referee can confirm your employment dates during the verification process.
If you are concerned about discrepancies:
- Support can add a note to the report with your actual start and leaving dates along with the company name. This note helps the reviewer or recruiter reference the true details.
Remember:
- You still need to enter the reference contact details in the reference request section yourself.
If you want to skip entering this short employment period:
- You may choose not to include this employment and instead add a non-employment gap to your history.
- However, if there is a tax controller record (like HMRC or EPFO) linked to this employer, Support should offer to add a report note with your true dates so the recruiter is aware of this employment.
