What to Do When a Reference Referee Does Not Reply
When you submit a reference request, we will immediately contact your referee and will contact them up to five times. After this contact period, if the referee has not provided a reference yet, we will let you know with an email notification.
## Steps to take when a referee doesn't reply
### Step one
- First contact your referee directly to remind them and ask them to search their inbox for an email from us
- It may have gone in their junk/spam folder so have them look around first to see if they received it
### Step two
- If they still have not gotten it, check to see if the email address you provided into Zinc for your referee is correct
- If it's not correct, you can [remove and add the referee](https://help.zincwork.com/hc/hm54ky7yrc/article/7388c1c4-how-to-replace-or-amend-referee-details-after-reference-submission) with the correct details
### Step three
- After confirming the email address is correct and no messages have been received, you can contact our Customer Support team to ask them to send a reference request email to your referee
### Step four
- If your referee is not responding to your messages and didn't provide a reference, provide an alternative referee for that organisation
