Basic DBS Identity Verification Changes

## Summary With Zinc's new identity verification journey, candidates completing a **Basic DBS check** can verify their identity digitally with a valid, in-date UK or Irish passport, or with another accepted document. You'll take a live photo of your document, then complete a facial motion scan. ## What ID do I need for a Basic DBS check? - **A valid, in-date UK or Irish passport:** this is all you need. - **No UK or Irish passport, but another accepted document:** a foreign passport, a driving licence or a national ID card. Your document must be valid and in date. - **None of these:** Zinc will route you to manual verification. ## What's changed? - Irish passports now work in the same way as UK passports. - You no longer need a second photo ID alongside a foreign passport. - If you don't have a UK or Irish passport, you can use a foreign passport, driving licence or national ID card on its own. - You'll complete a facial motion scan. - Automatic background checks, including identity fraud and activity history checks, run without any input from you. Zinc's digital identity verification follows the UK Digital Verification Services (DVS) Trust Framework, formerly known as the Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework. Our identity partner is Entrust, formerly known as Onfido. ## What if I don't have a passport or another accepted document? If you can't provide a UK or Irish passport or another accepted document, you won't be able to complete digital identity verification for your Basic DBS check. An expired passport can't be used, as it must be in date. Zinc will route you to manual verification automatically. Your employer will need to complete a manual identity check before Zinc can continue with the DBS submission. You can also select **Verify manually instead** at the start of your identity check if you'd rather not share your documents digitally. It takes longer and may delay your results, so only choose it if you're not comfortable with the digital process.
