How to Add a New Referee in Your Reference Requests

This article is for HR, professional, or regulatory references. If you wish to add a character reference, you can find further information [here](https://help.zincwork.com/hc/hm54ky7yrc/article/d8b5c312-how-do-i-add-a-character-reference). ## Step One Once you have signed into Zinc for your requested checks, you will first need to **Confirm your details**. If you need help getting into your account when you've already started your checks, click [here](https://help.zincwork.com/hc/hm54ky7yrc/article/cc4dc62b-how-to-access-your-completed-background-checks-on-zinc) for more help. When you've completed this section, you will need to select **References**. If the box appears grey, click **Add more** instead, the grey colour is because you've already added some references into Zinc. ✅ **You can still add a new referee even if your reference check is marked complete**—click **Add more** in the **References** box to add another referee to the same request. If you haven't added any references in yet, you may be requested to complete one section like **Employment Verification**, before moving on to another reference type. Once you've completed Employment Verification, you can add references in to either section by clicking either **Add more** or that specific reference section. If your employer has asked for multiple types of references to be requested, click into the section where you'd like to request this reference request. For example, if this was a regulatory role in a nursery, add this as a **regulatory reference**. This just makes sure your referee receives the right reference request for the job role you did so they can answer any specific questions set by your employer. ## Step Two Once you have clicked into **References**, you will then be brought to the submission page. The submission page is where you can submit the contact and employment information for your reference. You would need to ensure the following information is provided: - **Referee Full Name** (if you don't know their name, you can add in HR Department with HR as the first name and Department as the last name) - **Referee Email Address** - **Country of Employment** - **Company Name** - **Referee Contact Number** (optional) - **Your Latest Job Title at this Organisation** - **Dates You Worked at the Organisation** - **Any Other Specific Employer Details** such as your employee number (**only if requested**) You are then also able to add any optional competencies or skills you would liked to be verified, and edit the note to be sent to your referee. If you don’t have all the contact details yet, you can close the page and come back later to finish adding your referees—you don’t need to complete the references section in one sitting. Once you have provided the requested information, you will then need to digitally sign this via the box located at the bottom of the page- enter your name here and then proceed to click the **Request Reference button**. From here, your reference would then be submitted and a reference request will be sent to your desired referee. Referees are contacted as soon as you submit the reference request and will receive up to five reminders to complete the reference. Can I provide only a mobile phone instead of an email? No. An email address is mandatory as it's our primary method of collecting references. Without an email address, we cannot contact your referee. You may optionally provide a mobile phone number, which we'll use to send an SMS notification to your referee requesting a reference. However, for compliance reasons, we do not collect references over the phone.
